Virtually odourless and tasteless; a classic vodka.
I was quite torn whether to sell vodka or not. Not because of what it is; more so because of where it comes from.
Like many small distilleries, the equipment at Carroll’s Distillery provides the flexibility to produce a wide range of spirits. Vodka though requires a very high level of rectification from specialized stills. Because our equipment is not capable of producing it efficiently, and because vodka is the leading category in spirit sales in Miramichi, I chose to bottle vodka from neutral grain spirit (NGS) purchased from a third party. Resources that clearly explain NGS and its use in the distilling industry can be found here (youtube) and here (blog article).
In other words, the vodka at Carroll’s Distillery is not a “craft” product. To this point, it is written plainly on the label, on the price lists and on the website that the alcohol is not distilled by the distillery. It’s important to state, because the expectation when buying at a distillery is that the spirits were actually distilled on-site. Unfortunately, almost all of the industrial, most of the local spirit and local spirit soda “producers” bottle bulk NGS without any such disclosure. It’s generally best practice to always ask the bottler directly if buying craft / local is important for you.
That being said, the vodka is diluted and hand-bottled at Carroll’s Distillery. All other spirits sold at Carroll’s Distillery are entirely fermented, distilled and hand-bottled on location. Craft behold.
The label is designed to be sleek and minimalist in order to blend into the speed rail of bars and restaurants.
